A great use case for predictive AI
SLA works with producers to complement their systems with specialist data and analytics solutions, combining industry expertise with digital skills to optimize processes across the food production value chain.
In one case, SLA worked with a German food producer that was looking for ways to increase overall efficiency and align daily production more closely to demand. For the producer, excess production can lead to increased storage and labor costs, as well as meat being downgraded from organic to conventional, which significantly lowers its selling price.
APPROACH
Delivering a huge customer outcome
SLA saw that by feeding historical order data into Qlik Predict and adding in key external sources, it could be possible to predict demand and plan production with much greater accuracy.
SLA started testing with historical data and other influencing factors such as weather, store size, delivery locations, and holidays and compared the predictions with the actual figures. It reached an astonishing accuracy rate of over 90%. And by monitoring and adjusting the influence levels for each factor, SLA was able reduce the levels of deviation even further.
RESULTS
New approaches, impressive results
Implementing the solution at SLA’s client took just two weeks and results were both fast and substantial. Comparing predicted orders against real demand over 10 days, the deviation was just 1%.
The impressive predictions are delivering important outcomes. The ability to manage production with pinpoint accuracy means the business can avoid having to store, downgrade, or dispose of thousands of tons of food. More precise stocking also means inventory management is improved, while use of raw materials and packaging is also substantially more efficient.
