CHALLENGE

A critical shared resource for healthcare delivery

From providing advice on finances to managers across NHS Wales to producing accurate monthly and annual reporting to budget holders, NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) combines expertise in systems, finance, and management.

The team has grown significantly since the Covid-19 pandemic, and it became clear that its systems were becoming strained. As a result, the information the reports contained could be weeks old and difficult for budget holders to interpret, manage, and action.

APPROACH

Building engagement and buy-in

NWSSP saw that by switching from cumbersome, static, and time-consuming reporting tools to a dedicated business intelligence (BI) platform, it could add significant value to the information its teams were supplying. Having previously used Qlik products in other parts of the operation, Qlik Cloud Analytics was selected as the solution to take NWSSP forward.

By combining supporting documentation with real-world data and use cases, NWSSP quickly convinced stakeholders across the organization that Qlik was a relevant and effective solution.

RESULTS

Delivering accessible, targeted information

The most significant outcomes became clear when Qlik and the Budget Holders App went live. Standardized reporting that users struggled to comprehend was replaced by useful, accessible, and targeted information that enables easy interaction and meaningful action.

As word of the new tool spread, so did adoption, which almost doubled in just a few months. Also significant are the time savings: reports that could previously take days to generate can now be completed in less than an hour and the information delivered is quick and reliable.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Empowering budget holders with accessible data

The shared resources that NWSSP offers play a critical role in optimizing operations across NHS Wales. Its operating model is also a great example of best practice for other NHS bodies and similar organizations.

By placing meaningful data into the hands of budget holders with Qlik Cloud Analytics, NWSSP is not only saving time and resources, it’s giving key personnel the tools they need to continue doing great work where it’s most needed: at the healthcare frontline.

We’re really talking about empowerment. Qlik gives users their data and lets them slice it however they need to, so they can make their own decisions and take their own actions. That’s a major step forward.
