European sovereignty, European heritage, European outcomes

In Europe, trust is everything, and the bar is set by law. GDPR, the AI Act, NIS2, DORA, and the Data Act shape how data and AI must operate. Leaders need to show where data lives, who can touch it, and how it moves, and they want cloud speed and flexibility without giving up control, so sovereignty and transparency must be built in from day one.

Qlik was founded in Lund, Sweden over thirty years ago, and we grew up serving industries where regulation is the norm. We expanded that heritage with the acquisition of Talend, a Paris-born company known for integration and data quality. With our integrated portfolio we help customers govern complex estates, connect the right data with lineage and quality, and create trusted outcomes that stand up to both audit and boardroom scrutiny.

That perspective matters in a sovereign world, which is why the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is so important. It is based in the EU, operated by EU-resident staff, so customers keep control while using familiar services. Its purpose is clear: if sovereignty is the rule, make it the default. This is a principle we have always adopted with Qlik Cloud, which runs in multiple European regions and where customers choose residency, can keep data in region, and move at cloud speed with confidence.

Given our European roots and our deep relationship with AWS, it is a natural fit that Qlik is a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. We meet European expectations without asking customers to slow down, run governed analytics and AI on European-operated infrastructure, keep residency and autonomy intact, prove lineage and access in plain language, and deliver results on time.

Many organizations will be hybrid for years. Some workloads will run in a sovereign cloud, others will remain in existing public clouds meeting national data residency requirements, and a few will stay on premises. Qlik is built for that reality, and we work across environments without a forced re-platform. If keeping data in a national cloud or on premises is the right answer, we support it. If EU-resident data must be analyzed locally and only approved results shared more broadly, we support that as well.

Choice protects you from lock-in, and it lets you adopt at your pace.

Consider two practical cases. A health care company that services multiple countries needs near real-time views of lab data, hospital capacity, and pharmacy inventories, and it wants to use AI to predict where pressure will hit next. EU data residency and sovereign data operations are non-negotiable. Access is tightly scoped. Auditors test lineage and approvals. With Qlik on European Sovereign Cloud, data stays in the EU, operations stay with EU personnel, and field leaders see daily dashboards at 7 a.m. They act the same day, and planners use trusted signals to pre-position staff and stock, with their data meeting sovereignty requirements.

A pan-European bank is modernizing risk analytics with AI while keeping personal data in the right jurisdiction. Some portfolios remain in EU member countries. Others move to sovereign cloud over time. Qlik orchestrates data with quality checks and lineage, analyzes close to the source, and publishes results that meet internal and external rules. The board gets a line of sight from result to source. The CISO shows the access model. The regulator can trace every step.

My advice, keep it simple and outcome first. Protect sovereignty and move fast, start with one clear outcome, give it clear accountability, decide where data lives and where compute runs, and put controls around quality, lineage, and access that you can explain in plain language. Prove it on one of Qlik’s existing European regions, while building towards the European Sovereign Cloud, measure time to approval and time to decision, and if those improve, scale with confidence.

Qlik’s European story only gets stronger. From Lund to Paris, from analytics to integration and data quality, we help organizations respect European and member state rules and deliver European Union outcomes.

Together with AWS, we are making sovereignty the default and speed the expectation, so your analytics and your AI can be trusted, explainable, and ready for production.
