Fast Company 2020 World Changing Ideas Recognizes Qlik and C40 Cities

Honorable Mention in AI & Data Category For Dashboards Developed To Help Fight Climate Change

As the Executive Director of and head of Qlik’s Corporate Responsibility, I am thrilled to share the news that Qlik, together with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, was selected for Honorable Mention in the AI & Data category by Fast Company for the publication’s 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards. The awards honor businesses, policies and projects that are actively engaged and deeply committed to addressing the climate crisis, social injustice or economic inequality. Qlik and C40 Cities earned an Honorable Mention for partnering to develop a series of interactive, data-driven dashboards that help fight climate change on a global scale.

I am so proud that we have been recognized by Fast Company for our work with C40 Cities in creating these climate change dashboards, as we collaborate to ensure a sustainable future. I am confident that, together with C40 Cities, as well as our partners and customers and additional organizations, we can continue to drive positive changes in corporate and governmental environmental policy and practice that will transform businesses and our planet for the better.

Data Explorer Applications

The dashboards, called Data Explorer applications and built on Qlik’s Data Analytics Platform, complement C40’s array of implementation guides, case studies and other resources on topics such as greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, waste, transportation, clean energy and climate hazards. If used effectively within cities, the dashboards can help cities see where they stand on key metrics and benchmark themselves against city peers, with the aim of improving decision making and accelerating the policies and investments necessary to prevent more catastrophic consequences of climate change. These dashboards also help cities to identify peers that face similar problems, promoting effective inter-city collaboration.

The Data Explorer applications sit within C40’s new Knowledge Hub, an online platform to consolidate insights, practical resources and experiences, and tested approaches from cities leading the way in delivering climate action. The Knowledge Hub, in conjunction with the Qlik-driven Data Explorer applications, allows cities to access policy briefs, technical guidance, the latest data and research, and a bank of case studies to catalyze action at greater speed and scale.

As we work with C40 Cities and other sustainability organizations to combat climate change, we will be continually looking at ways to leverage our data expertise to find opportunities to help businesses and governments pinpoint how they can take proactive steps to reduce their carbon footprint. Together, we can help drive and inform conversations and actions that help mitigate negative environmental impacts globally, improving life for ourselves and our Earth.
