Another year has gone by, and 2018 was one of the most innovative years for Qlik. We have built a lot of product innovations this year and I would like to do a recap of some of my highlights of 2018, and what made it another special year for us.
Before I start, I would like to briefly talk about the two motivations that fuels our innovations.
Make meaning
First, we innovate with the desire to make meaning, and to change the world. We believe that the world can and should be a better place with the use of data. That is why, in April, we launched the Data Literacy Program to help individuals and organizations embrace the next wave of business transformation in an increasingly data-centric world. Our vision is to empower everyone with the ability to understand, analyze and use data with confidence. The same vision drives our product innovations. Our mantra is to build technologies and solutions to create a data-literate world, bringing data literacy to everyone, and enable people with confident data-driven decisions.
Jump to the next curve
Second, we innovate to jump to the next curve. I think as humans we are at the beginning of a new area, a new jump, that I call as the second Industrial Revolution with the use of AI and data. The first Industrial Revolution was based on the invention of “artificial power”. Previous to that, everything was made with human muscle and animal power. That was the only way to get anything done. The innovation with the Industrial Revolution was steam power, and fossil fuels to make “artificial power”. Today when you drive down the highway, you are commanding 250 “horses”. It is “artificial power” and it is also distributed on wires on a grid to everywhere.
The same thing is going to happen with AI. Everything that had been “electrified” is now going to be “cognified”. So now the car is going down the highway, it has 250 horsepower, but in addition, it has 250 minds. It is the auto-driven car. AI is going to flow across the grid, the cloud, in the same way electricity did. And this is going to generate the second Industrial Revolution. Given where technology is heading with AI and our motivation to jump to the next curve, we have innovated technologies this year to cognify analytics, that uses the power of data and analytics at scale with cloud, augmenting users to find insights in the data.
And the magic happens
When these two – motivations make meaning and jump to the next curve – are combined with the brilliant engineers and designers of Qlik R&D, the magic happens! My highlights from 2018 Qlik products innovations are:
