CHALLENGE

Energy data analysis as a service for local authorities

naturenergie netze GmbH operates the energy grid for Germany’s Südbaden region. It planned to offer municipalities within its grid area the option to independently access energy data such as electricity consumption and usage types.

This would give municipalities more extensive insights into their consumption and help them implement measures to further optimize their energy usage. To ensure a seamless information experience, however, the solution needed to be fully integrated into a comprehensive municipal portal that was under development.

APPROACH

Qlik Mashup enables dashboard integration

naturenergie netze had been using Qlik to analyze data for several years, working with Informatec, a Qlik Elite Channel partner. Informatec took naturenergie netze’s specific analytics and visualization requirements and transferred them to a Qlik Sense dashboard that could also be integrated into the web portal and aligned with the new naturenergie netze corporate design.

Using Qlik Mashups, Informatec was able to combine Qlik Sense’s powerful analytics capabilities with the flexibility and customizability of a user-defined web application.

RESULTS

Municipal energy data at the touch of a button

Municipalities now use the dashboard to access data such as the number of supply points and energy consumption for residential, commercial and agricultural users, and street lighting. They can also access information on energy fed into the grid via the municipality’s 25,000 feed-in points and the consumption covered by renewable sources.

Data for the past five years’ consumption and generation also allows users to track developments over time and provides insights into measures such as converting streetlights to LED or buildings’ energy-improvement projects.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

A seamless and powerful solution

naturenergie netze’s use case is a great example of how Qlik Mashup allows dashboards created in Qlik Sense to be integrated into other platforms such as internal websites. It also enables the aggregation of content from multiple sources to create a single new service displayed through one easy-to-understand graphical interface.

For naturenergie netze, this gives both employees and customers access to important and actionable data and analytics, while retaining its own branding and corporate design and using its municipality’s portal.
