Billions

of dollars in spending optimized

New levels of visibility into spending and program statuses are delivering savings across DoD programs.

Thousands

of hours saved each year

Qlik dashboards and analytics allow staff to identify and focus on higher-priority programs that need additional support.

Secure

access to data and systems

Multiple modern and legacy sources and systems can now supply high-value data quickly, accurately and securely.

CHALLENGE

The value of standardized data and processes

IDS developed the Comprehensive Cost and Requirement (CCaR) platform to automate previously intensive processes and create a single source of truth for military program managers. Its use expanded until eventually Pentagon officials saw the value of a standardized set of processes that organizations could follow.

The organization also built the Project Management Resource Tool (PMRT) to form a central platform for acquiring and sustaining defense weapon and business systems. In the process, IDS realized that data and analytics needed to be central pillars of PMRT.

APPROACH

Pulling critical data together

IDS needed a tool with flexibility and visual appeal, while also allowing users to only see data for which they had permission. Qlik Sense met all these needs and could also handle the high volumes of data that CCaR and PMRT were accumulating.

Qlik worked with the DoD to complete security assessments, while the lack of requirement for client software also eased the implementation process. The environment was bolstered by Qlik Talend, which further expanded the range of data that could be captured, and quickly became a key component.

RESULTS

New capabilities across the chain of command

Qlik Sense and Qlik Talend now sit at the heart of CCaR and the wider PMRT solution, playing a key role in managing DoD spending amounting to billions of dollars each year.

From tracking and managing budgets to enterprise-level analytics and beyond, users at all levels of the US Air Force, Army and other services new levels of granularity and accuracy into their operations.

Key benefits in terms of time saved and efficiencies created have seen PMRT gain recognition across the sector, even winning an award for its contribution to Covid relief efforts.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Data adds more value at every level

From operational level to strategic management, the tools developed by IDS show how Qlik and Qlik Talend can use the power of data to add value across the defense acquisition process.

As we move up the chain of command, it’s all about summarizing massive amounts of data into something that’s meaningful at each level. Qlik does a great job of that.
