CHALLENGE

More digital solutions required

BNL BNP Paribas is one of Italy’s most well-known financial institutions and part of European banking leader BNP Paribas Group since 2006.

Delivering services with the speed and agility that BNL BNP Paribas needed involved relaying data from its core mainframe banking system to the systems handling its digital applications. BNL BNP Paribas deployed streaming solutions to ensure that digital data was always available to customers but needed a stable and reliable way to manage those high volumes quickly without consuming valuable mainframe resources.

APPROACH

CDC delivers speed and simplicity

The bank approached Italian technology consultancy Quantyca. At the heart of its proposed solution was Qlik Data Integration, specifically Qlik Replicate. Working with Apache Kafka, it would sit between the bank’s mainframe and data warehouse to enable the high-throughput, low-latency streaming of data in near-real time.

The new environment was running in just a few months, with change data capture (CDC) functionality delivering data consistency and integrity, while continuous monitoring and management ensure smooth, rapid flows.

RESULTS

Streaming as a service

With Qlik Data Integration in place, BNL BNP Paribas has transformed its data environment and its approach to data management and consumption.

The data streaming service now powers 15 separate data domains connecting the mainframe to the open system. The data hub caches around 80 million digital records each day and around 40 million records are transferred to the open system daily.

For BNL BNP Paribas’ customers, the new data transfer speeds mean account information accessed through digital platforms is up to date and refreshed in near-real time.
