Demand for highly skilled data science graduates
Anurag University prioritizes hands-on learning to prepare students for industry demands. Recognizing a significant skills gap of around 97,000 jobs in data analysis, the university equips students through the Qlik Academic Program. Through this program, it has access to Qlik Sense and the Qlik Learning Portal’s self-paced learning platform, along with the Qlik Community to collaborate and share experiences.
Students can earn qualifications and certifications, enhancing their resumes and social media profiles. Additionally, students who earn certifications can also teach peers, demonstrated through hackathons like Data Dynamo, showcasing their skills as future data analysts.
APPROACH
Hackathon benefits from industry collaboration
The university’s event, Data Dynamo, attracted 250 students from various universities. This was the university's first hackathon utilizing Qlik Sense as one of its themes, meeting demands for cutting-edge data science knowledge. Led by the Data Analytics Club, the event incorporated analytics and visualization, inspiring participation.
The 24-hour session featured idea generation, problem-solving and project implementation phases, with judging based on innovation and solution effectiveness. Other themes included E-commerce Evolution, Health Tech and Sustainability. Students also engaged in pre-hackathon boot camps led by Qlik and Prof Sumitra Pundlik, focusing on Qlik, application building and visualization on Qlik Sense.
RESULTS
Immersive learning churns out practical applications
Hackathon participants found Qlik Sense user-friendly and effective for simplifying complex analysis. Team Data Bots utilized Qlik for e-commerce data, streamlining the analysis of customer behavior and Team Dynamos benefited from Qlik’s precision in sleep analysis, revealing patterns between job roles and sleep cycles. Qlik’s support, from registration to certification, proved invaluable, fostering critical thinking and data literacy.
Students noted Qlik’s versatility across domains, making it a valuable technology for data analysis. The success prompted plans for more workshops, with the Department of Data Science aiming to include Data Literacy in the curriculum and expand the Qlik Academic Program to other departments like Management and Cybersecurity.
