CHALLENGE
Reflecting a growing requirement
Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) believes education shouldn’t be limited to a student’s main degree course and developed the ARU Certificate for Professional Development (ARUCPD) program as a co-curricular set of modules for students.
“A module covering data and analytics was developed in response to feedback from the employability team,” explains Tina Jia, Lecturer Practitioner at the ARU Faculty of Business and Law. “The ability to use, analyze and interpret data is increasingly seen as highly desirable, and as educators we have to reflect that.”
APPROACH
A highly effective approach
As Jia was developing the module, a conversation with ARU’s Director of Finance proved pivotal. As a long-time user of Qlik software, he understood the requirements perfectly and recommended the Qlik Academic Program.
As well as providing free access to Qlik Sense for students and educators, the Qlik Academic Program gave Jia comprehensive, ready-to-use training on which to base the new Business Analytics and Data Visualization with Qlik module. She soon had a fully developed course to present to the faculty and its students.
RESULTS
Standing out in a competitive field
The Business Analytics and Data Visualization with Qlik module proved to be highly popular, easily filling its allocation cap of 50 students in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years. For some students, it’s also been a key turning point, with several using their newly acquired knowledge to secure high-profile roles after graduation.
As well as overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, Jia’s module has also won admiration from senior staff at ARU, who recognize Qlik’s role in providing valuable transferable skills for its students.
