In just a decade since its foundation, Alpha Auto Group (AAG) has become the world’s largest Canada-based dealership group, building an impressive reputation for efficient operations and high-quality service.

As AAG expanded, it realized that it was also outgrowing standard manual reporting practices. Its franchises used a range of platforms and dealer management systems (DMS), which made acquiring data quickly and consistently a time-consuming process. Traditional tools also struggled to manage AAG’s growing international presence.

APPROACH

Implementing a foundational tool

AAG met with Capital Data Analytics, a Wisconsin-based Qlik Elite Partner and the developer of VizAuto – a collection of customizable Qlik accelerator applications and support services tailored specifically for the automobile sector. A joint Capital Data Analytics and Qlik team presented the solution to AAG’s senior stakeholders and then to the group’s owner. The verdict was universally positive.

Capital Data Analytics and AAG began work on deploying reporting across the business. Capital Data Analytics handled development tasks, working with AAG’s infrastructure team which handled data intake and extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes.

RESULTS

Accelerated processes fuel expansion

Data provided by the VizAuto team quickly played a pivotal role in securing a key acquisition for AAG. It was also an exciting indicator of what was to come. With Qlik and the VizAuto team’s support, managers from stores to AAG’s headquarters are saving time and costs. Monthly profit and loss (P&L) reports are now produced in seconds instead of hours while International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) reporting is more accurate, saving the business up to two weeks every quarter.

The VizAuto team is improving collaboration between AAG’s warranty and accounting teams and plays an important role in standardizing charts of accounts across the business.
