Recap: 2018 #LuminaryMeetup

Takeaways from our 2019 Luminary Meetup

Recently, 30 Qlik Luminaries from far and wide came together for the annual Luminary Meetup at our Swedish HQ for two days of private roundtables with R&D and Product Management executives. We’ve conducted this meetup for a few years now and it’s very special to have the crème de la crème of the Qlik ecosystem gathered in one room for two days of knowledge sharing and ideation.

The agenda kicked off with an update from Mike Potter, Chief Technology Officer. When Mike gets a chance to leave the lab and spend time with customers and partners, he prefers to listen as opposed to present another slide deck – and the Luminaries had a lot to share with him! They had a chance to surface their best ideas and provide feedback on how we’re doing which spurred lots of interesting conversation and follow ups.

We proceeded with a briefing around our recent acquisition of Podium Data (now called Qlik Data Catalyst) and our strategy for equipping enterprises with an analytics-ready data strategy. We discussed Qlik’s investments in the developer community through the revamping of Qlik Branch and the introduction of Qlik Core and the Trusted Extension Developer Program.

Moving on to more technical sessions, we were thrilled to showcase our next generation data indexing engine (Qlik Associative Big Data Index™) and cognitive learning machine which raised a lot of buzz among the Luminaries. They received a preview of all the great innovation coming in 2019 which is one of the best perks of being part of this exclusive group!

Aside from getting together and networking with fellow Luminaries, attendees also enjoyed a night out on the town to explore the city where Qlik was founded 25 years ago. No Luminary Meetup is complete without a nice dinner and a thorough survey of the neighborhood pubs!

However, we were back in the office the next day, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, for conversation with our data visualization experts who shared more about our coming releases of visualization updates. A new thing we did this year was to pair up the Luminaries with our Research & Usability team for a 2 hour workshop. They gave the Luminaries a unique look in to the state of the art research that’s going into training our cognitive engine. But that’s confidential for now.

If you are picturing yourself attending this event next year and getting an exclusive look under the hood at Qlik, look no further. Until November 30, 2018 we’re accepting applications for the 2019 Qlik Luminary Program. We’re looking for extraordinary users, developers, and BI leaders in the community who are looking to take their advocacy to the next level.Click here to learn how you can apply.
