Qlik and partners recently launched this year’s Qlik Academic Program Datathon as a challenge to develop solutions to address three of the United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, these are: Goal 13 (Climate Action), which tasks us to take urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts; Goal 14 (Life Below Water), which stresses the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources; and Goal 15 (Life on Land), which urges us to sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, as well as end biodiversity loss.

Led by Qlik.org and the Qlik Academic Program, we are asking students of the program from across the globe to build dashboards with visualizations to help address these global climate challenges. As with past Qlik Academic Program Datathons, all entries will be reviewed and judged by Qlik and outside experts. Finalists will be announced in April, and their presentations will be shown at QlikWorld Online in May where an overall winner will be chosen and announced. Registration for QlikWorld can be completed by clicking here.

Qlik and the UN have been partners for several years in developing a series of dashboards to support the work of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This datathon builds upon the work already in place to visualize the global indicators to address the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Individuals or teams of two can participate from anywhere around the world. Specific details about the challenge, how to register, how to submit entries, judging criteria and prizes, along with terms and conditions are contained within registration instructions. Final submissions are due April 8th.
