On Dec 3, International Day of Persons with Disability offers us the opportunity to reflect and recommit to creating a world where every person can contribute and thrive safely. This day is a reminder of the talent, creativity, and innovation that persons with disabilities bring to our communities and workplaces.
The Qlik-Able Employee Resource Group had the honor of hosting virtual learning sessions led by athletes and staff from the Special Olympics. These sessions guided our Qlik community to explore practical tips and real-world strategies for communicating effectively with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
“Participating in the unified leadership training with the Qlik team was an eye-opening experience. Their openness and willingness to learn and interact with Susan, Felipe, and me reaffirmed that, with the appropriate approach, individuals without intellectual and developmental disabilities can gain understanding and help foster a more inclusive work environment and society.” - David Duncan, athlete leader from Special Olympics Jamaica
This incredible session highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, the value of listening to lived experiences, working together to remove barriers, and encouraging inclusive design, policies, and accessibility.
As our ERG continues to create a safe place for Qlikkies with disabilities, we’re committed to:
Championing accessibility with tools and resources
Amplifying voices and encouraging representation in the decision-making process
Continuously learning about inclusive practices, language and allyship
Globally, more than one billion people live with a disability, yet for many the barriers – both invisible and visible – still limit access to opportunities, resources, and equitable experiences. Inclusion is a daily practice that requires empathy, curiosity, and collaboration. Together, we can build a more accessible, equitable, and empowering world for all.
