Qlik Transforms Air Europa’s Data Management Into a Strategic Asset

Air Europa currently runs more than 100 daily tasks, replicates nearly 5 billion rows of data per month, and saves around 700 hours annually just on ETL processes.

Madrid — Air Europa, ones of Europe’s leading airlines and a member of the SkyTeam alliance, has strengthened its data management strategy in partnership with Qlik® a global leader in data integration, analytics, data quality, and artificial intelligence. Thanks to the implementation of Qlik Data Integration, the company has ensured that its critical data is available across the organization in seconds rather than days, enabling faster and more accurate decision-making in all areas of the business.

Before adopting Qlik’s technology, Air Europa relied on complex extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes that caused latency and made it difficult to synchronize information between operational and analytical systems. As data volumes grew, these limitations impacted the availability and reliability of information.

“With Qlik, I’m confident that our data is perfectly synchronized; what’s in the transactional databases is exactly what we have in our analytics ecosystem. This is extremely important,” shared Jose Carlos Bermejo, Head of Data and Analytics at Air Europa.

In just a few days, the airline’s data team carried out an extensive proof of concept together with Qlik Consulting, validating more than 14 use cases and replicating 17 billion rows of data. The results confirmed the solution’s ability to deliver fast, reliable, and non-invasive integration.

In just three months, Air Europa completed the migration to the new data platform. Today, Qlik Data Integration is a core component of the airline’s analytics environment, integrating information from multiple sources and making it available to users in real time. Currently, Air Europa runs more than 100 daily tasks, replicating nearly 5 billion rows of data per month.

“We’re saving around 700 hours a year just on developing ETL processes,” adds Bermejo. “And we’re using that time for higher value-added tasks. Moreover, the new system is much more efficient and reduces operational risk.”

The project has also driven a governed self-service model, enabling end users to create their own analytical applications in Qlik Sense® without relying on the IT department. This strengthens the autonomy of different business areas and improves responsiveness to business needs.

“Qlik’s solutions are now part of the key strategic services we have at Air Europa, directly impacting our day-to-day operations,” emphasizes Bermejo. “It’s a platform that delivers value both in terms of analytics and data management and is evolving with us, allowing the end user, the passenger, to enjoy an improved experience.”

For Qlik, this success story reinforces its position as a key technology partner in modernizing data and analytics within the transportation and logistics sector.

“Air Europa’s success demonstrates the real impact of having reliable, integrated, and AI-ready data across the entire organization,” says José Andrés García Bueno, Country Manager for Iberia at Qlik. “Our goal is to help leading organizations like Air Europa turn data management into a strategic asset that drives faster, better-informed decisions.”
