Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month

This year marked the 100th anniversary of Black History Month in the United States, and we’re proud to recognize this milestone as a global Qlik community. We chose “past, present, and possibilities” as this year’s theme to honor the legacy of the past, celebrate excellence and influence today, and look ahead to the opportunity we all have to help shape the future.

Throughout the month, our Black Alliance Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted a series of activities designed to educate, inspire, and celebrate the rich history and contributions of the Black community.

Week One: Reflection

As we honor the past, our ERG hosted a screening of “Summer of Soul,” a powerful documentary directed by Questlove showcasing footage from the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Through our discussion of the documentary, we explored how human connection and culture transcend genres, and the current impact of community spaces.

Weeks Two and Three: Celebration

To celebrate the present, our Qlik community tackled trivia questions, and as a nod to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, a few participants even repped their alma mater!

During these weeks, multiple offices came together to support local Black/African-owned restaurants.

Week Four: Action

To close out our celebrations, we had an incredible conversation with Toju Duke, Founder & CEO of Diverse AI, on the importance of responsible AI design and what the future of work means for diverse communities. As a company, we deliver AI-powered analytics and robust data integration solutions, and our conversation with Toju reminds us about our role and approach to inclusive AI systems.
